How to create a pet nook

Want to make your pet feel truly at home? Create your own pet nook following the simple steps below.

You will need:

Dust Sheet
Masking tape
Sugar Soap and cleaning cloths
2” paint brush
Paint rollers and trays - 1 x small and 1 x standard
Medium sandpaper
Dulux Easycare emulsion paint in your favourite colours
Dulux Simply Refresh Multi Surface paint in your favourite colours

Tip: All the paints are low odour and water-based, but dogs have a very keen sense of smell, so open the windows and let in the fresh air when you’ve finished the job and make sure there are plenty of familiar things in the new space to make it feel like home.

Ready to start?

Use ready mixed Sugar Soap to remove dirt from the woodwork and walls then wipe down with clean water
Mask off areas that you are not going to be painting and put down your dust sheet
Lightly sand the painted wooden surfaces and remove the dust with a brush or vacuum cleaner
Stir the paint thoroughly before applying a first coat of Dulux Simply Refresh to the woodwork, using a brush for the edges and mouldings and a small roller for the flat surfaces.
Stir the paint thoroughly and apply a first coat of Dulux Easycare to the ceiling and walls using a brush for the edges and standard roller for filling in. Allow to dry
Once the first coat on the woodwork is dry, lightly sand the surface, remove the dust and apply a second coat of Dulux Simply Refresh
Once the walls and ceiling have dried, apply a second coat of Dulux Easycare
When everything is thoroughly dry, remove the masking tape and invite your fur baby to inspect their new space.
