Dulux – Colourful Interiors of TV

Want to give your home a new look this year? Colour inspiration can be found everywhere, including from our favourite TV shows. If you’re keen to revamp your space, pay attention to the interiors during your next Netflix binge to help with creativity in your designs.

To inspire your home decorating, creative director and colour expert Marianne Shillingford shares her thoughts on the colour palettes of some of the most popular TV shows of 2021 and some of the most-anticipated returns of 2022. From Shondaland’s Bridgerton to BBC America’s Killing Eve, read on to discover some of the colourful interiors of TV.

Bridgerton

The colours used in Bridgerton portray opulent splendour, reflective of the glamorous life of high society in Regency London. Gold and skin tones – depicted through the royal interiors – make up an elegant colour scheme. Chalky blue is another dominant shade, used in the Bridgerton family’s London house.

Marianne notes that Bridgerton’s “gold and skin tones can be layered across the walls and accessories”. She recommends choosing a colour such as Golden Egg and pair with Ruby Starlet for a dash of rouge, perfect for smaller details such as a painted headboard.

“Our blue palette is soft and sophisticated. The inclusion of a rose-tinted clay balances the cool with a warm embrace that would be perfect for a split colour effect,” she adds.

Emily in Paris

From earthy greys to bold shades of rose, the colour palette that defines Emily in Paris captures adventure, decadence and indulgence.

Searching for feature wall paint ideas for the living room? Neutral shades are great for creating a classically French, elegant look. Marianne says to “consider using earthy greys and stone caramel neutrals as a base colour, such as Flint Arrow or Sunbaked Terracotta. Then, add a splash of red, such as Ruby Fountain 1, for a look that is totally oh là là!”

For those rooms that require a level of calm, select cool blues and dial up with hotter shades.

Killing Eve

Looking for bedroom colour scheme ideas? The colours used in Killing Eve – think lush reds and pinks – are ideal for small, intimate spaces. Glamorous and sensuous, the Killing Eve colour scheme will create a ‘moment of indulgence’ in any room.

“Our palette features elegant auburn shades, like Peanut Butter, alongside rich pinks and reds, like Wild Poppy, to give your room a fabulous pop of colour,” says Marianne.

“Select your favourite auburn shade and use it all over, from the walls and ceiling to the doors and the woodwork. Then, use the rest of the palette ‘in the accessories and details.”

Ozark

Characterised by a blue-grey palette, the interiors of Ozark are the perfect backdrop to a family drama full of menace.

With its mix of olive greens and pale blues, our Ozark colour scheme is ideal for correcting previous decorating crimes, according to Marianne.

She says: “Need some living room colour ideas? Use a lighter shade, such as Atmosphere, and team with dark woods – lots of it. You could try the warmer brown shades, such as Wild Cactus, in a grown-up bathroom.”

Peaky Blinders

The interiors of Peaky Blinders depict a gritty-yet-glamorous look of post-war Birmingham, full of browns, bronzes, black and blood red.

Searching for Dulux paint colours for the living room? Look no further than our Peaky Blinders palette. Choose a rich bronze or gold as a backdrop colour, such as Buried Treasure or Marmalade Preserve, then use the rest of the palette for coordinating accessories.

Sex Education

Bright, vibrant and timeless, the colours used in Sex Education portray an image of contemporary life through an 80s-style lens. From deep reds to striking golds, these hues pay homage to the feelings of being young and in love.

Our Sex Education palette offers a fabulous range of shades to liven up your home interior. The colours are ideal for a teenager’s cosy bedroom or a retro-style living room. Choose a gold such as Cherished Gold for the backdrop, then accessorise with reds and pinks like Auburn Embers

Squid Game

Driven by a pink, green and blue palette, Squid Game’s interiors depict a sense of surreal fantasy.

Says Marianne: “If you like your interiors to be edgy and have lots of natural light, take inspiration from our collection of Squid Game shades, perfect for a bright open-plan living room, a workspace or a teenage bedroom. Choose a bright pink or green for your wall colour, like Sweet Fondant or Lime Jelly. Use the rest of the palette to accessorise.”

Stranger Things

The Stranger Things interiors offer a unique combination of comfort and suspense, a blend of cream hues and darker shades.

How to recreate the look at home

Refresh your home with an 80s look and get inspired by our science fiction-esque Stranger Things palette. “Choose a rich gold, such as California Days, as your all-over colour and incorporate the rest of the palette for accessories, Marianne says. “There were literally no rules to decorating in the 80s’, so don’t be afraid to go wild!” she adds.

Succession

Sleek and elegant are two words that define the Succession palette. This satirical comedy-drama series is all about power and refinement, and our intricate colour scheme reflects these notions perfectly.

From Dried Sage to Garden Grey, this polished collection of shades can be used to decorate living rooms and open-plan kitchens. Marianne notes that the “palette can be softened with plants”, so consider incorporating a dash of greenery, too.

The Crown

First appearing on our screens in November 2016, The Crown has wowed viewers with its compelling characters and colourful interiors ever since. Our palette reflects ornateness, grandeur and luxury – themes present throughout the series.

Use cooler shades – such as Drifting Cloud – for south-facing living rooms and bedrooms and add “touches of pink and gold in the accessories”, Marianne explains. Choose the aptly named Prom Queen or Raspberry Diva for a dash of colour.

From lounge colour schemes to colourful bedroom ideas, our favourite TV shows are packed full of decorating ideas.
