The airy, double-height hallway was a crucial selling point for Jess Soothill when she chose this family home.
However, the writer and author of Mummy of Boy Girl Twins blog knew she needed to paint over the middle-of-the-road magnolia sharpish.
It was the fabulous staircase and light in the double-height hallway that made me want to buy our new-build family home 18 months ago,’ Jess says.
‘But the magnolia was so plain and, as the first room people come into, the hall sets the tone for the whole house.
We’re always coming and going through it, and the children play in it, too. I wanted something more inviting and homely.
‘Grey has been on-trend for a few years now and I knew it wouldn’t date too quickly. The Dulux colours are absolutely superb and offer so much choice. I used some tester pots to narrow it down and pick my favourite – Chic Shadow. We decided to use it to create a large feature wall along the back of the space to really bring out the grey. It looks sophisticated, modern and elegant, and I’m really pleased with the way it works with the Jasmine White.
‘I’ve enjoyed accessorising the space with monochrome cushions and prints, and houseplants. We have a nice seating area for waiting or putting on shoes, and there’s some brilliant new storage, too. I love the space now – it’s no longer a room we just pass through. It feels loved and stylish, and I smile every time I walk into it.’
