An interior designer known for championing the hand-crafted and unique, Kit Kemp is the queen of the folk aesthetic. Co-owner and Design Director of the Firmdale hotel group (including Ham Yard Hotel and the Soho Hotel in London and Crosby Street Hotel in New York), she broke the mould of sterile, formal interiors (which were standard for the hotel industry before the boutique hotel revolution), and brought life and colour to hotel spaces, making them feel like home. She sources rare finds and artefacts from all over the world for her hotel projects - most recently an American 1950s bowling alley for Ham Yard Hotel, and has a keen eye for detail, as you'd expect from a lover of all things handmade.

So her new collaboration with Anthropologie is a real meeting of like minds. The US brand is also renowned for its handmade products, teaming up with local artists and makers and giving them a platform to sell their work.

The new collection, Folkthread, includes rustic furniture, hand-knotted rugs, wall decor and textiles, and embodies Kemp’s signature style, which she describes as 'colourful and carefree with a fresh feeling of now.'

The designer goes on to say 'Anthropologie and I love folk art and handmade crafts – this includes embroidery, collage and beautiful materials that last and feel good. I have taken a few of my favorite designs and have adapted them especially for Anthropologie. Interiors should be fun so let’s enjoy the colour.'

We couldn't agree more. We've got our eye on the beautiful hand-carved oak side table, Circlestacks (below), and the felted wool Piped armchair (below).
