Open plan kitchens sometimes miss out on all the fun when it comes to decorating, so show yours some love with a little refresh. The Dulux Amazing Space designers have cooked up a scheme that’s all about attention to detail to make your mealtimes feel more special – tuck in…

Colour wise, a mid-tone grey like Night Jewels 4 is a great choice for a sophisticated and cosy backdrop in a dining space as it will make whatever colours or accessories you put against it pop. Team it with a warm neutral such as Chalk Blush 4 on the other walls and add splashes of colour with painted furniture. Give classic bistro chairs a twist with a lick of Javan Dawn 3 and Chalk Blush 4 for a coordinated set of seating (you’ll need to prime them first though). Alternatively, go for a pre-painted set – Dunelm’s Croften Blue Spindle Back Chairs (£29.99 for two) are a good match.

Treat your cooking and eating zones as you would any other in the home and bring some softness underfoot with a plush rug to counteract all those hard surfaces (tiles, worktops, appliances etc). Not only will it cosy up the space and add pattern, but it’ll help zone your open-plan space too. Try John Lewis’ Genevieve Bennett Trellis Rug for a similar design (£595).

Another clever zoning tactic is to use statement lighting over the table. Designs with an industrial metallic finish look such as Dunelm’s Asha Pendants (£24.99) add a modern touch to proceedings. Finally, treat your walls to a few pretty prints. Graham and Green’s Green Salamis Parhassus Butterfly Print (£29) adds a dainty vibe to dining zones. You never know, it might even rub off on your brood’s table manners…
