Let's be honest - we've all judged a book by it's cover, haven't we? While we know it's what's on the inside that counts, it's undeniable that appearances matter too.

A new study commissioned by Dulux Weathershield reveals that UK homeowners can increase the perceived value of their home by a quarter and keep up with the Joneses in one fell swoop simply by adding a lick of paint to the exterior of their home, as Brits expect to pay 23% more for a freshly painted home.

Despite the big difference a small change can make, on average, Brits have not painted the outside of their home for ten years, with one in four not having painted the outside of the home for more than 20 years.

When it comes to ‘kerb appeal’ and making a good impression, the research shows we should pay more attention to the maintenance of our front garden, fences, driveways and the paint on our front doors as these were voted the top bug bares for Brits. One in five of us also can’t stand a bland looking home exterior. Who can blame us?

The top biggest bug bare for the exterior of our homes? Well, it turns out we hate to see a front door in need of paint. But the good news is that's one of the easiest things to fix, so no excuses...

So the big question is, what colour are you going to paint yours?
