Weathershield Exterior Satin

Weathershield Exterior Satin has 6 year weathering durability guaranteed provided surfaces are in good condition and the system is correctly applied. This beautiful subtle sheen finish is recommended for use on front doors and windows.

Usage guide

Surface preparation

To get the best results from the Dulux Weathershield Exterior Satin system, make sure that all surfaces to be painted are sound, clean and dry.
For bare wood, or wood with flaking or blistering paint: Remove all defective coatings, including grey, weathered wood, if necessary stripping back and sanding down to bare wood. Treat all knots with a knotting solution. Prime all bare wood with Weathershield Exterior Preservative Primer.
Wipe excess primer off surrounding paintwork and knots. Fill surface defects or open joints with the appropriate Polycell Polyfilla product.
Painted wood in good condition with no flaking or blistering paint: Thoroughly sand down.
Painting non-wood surfaces: Prepare any bare metal and prime with 1 coat of Dulux Metal Primer. When painting plastic gutters and pipes contact the Customer Care Centre at ICI Paints for advice.
Mould Growth: Remove and treat any mould, algae, lichen or moss with an appropriate fungicidal wash.

How to use

Stir thoroughly with a palette knife or similar implement before use.
Apply 2 or more coats of Weathershield Exterior Satin. Primed wood and some dark colours may need a further coat.
Precautions: Do not use below 10°C, immediately after rain, fog or frost or when these conditions are forecast. When painting resinous wood or woodwork with a history of blistering it is advisable to use light colours only, particularly on south facing elevations. The maximum benefits of the Weathershield system will only be realised when used as directed above on good quality timber. Do not use or store paint in extremes of temperature and protect from frost.

Ensure good ventilation during application and drying.
Avoid contact with skin and eyes. When painting it is advisable to wear eye protection. In case of contact with eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water and seek medical advice. After contact with skin, wash immediately with plenty of soap and water or a proprietary skin cleanser. Do not use solvent, thinners or white spirit. This product contains a fungicide. Keep out of the reach of children. Avoid the inhalation of dust. Wear a suitable face mask if dry sanding. Do not empty into drains or watercourses. Some local authorities have special facilities for disposing of waste paint. Safety data sheet available for professional user on request. Special precautions should be taken during surface preparation of pre-1960s paint surfaces over wood and metal as they may contain harmful lead.
