Violet has always had strong connections to royalty and riches. Historically, it was once an expensive pigment to create, produced by the Romans from a type of sea snail. Reminiscent of rich ethnic fabrics and the robes of royalty, violet is the perfect colour to create a feeling of luxury in your home.

Violet is very versatile and can move from being strong and bold to feminine and understated.

For a soft effect try using subtle lilacs which are perfect for creating romantic bedrooms. Pale violets will open up any space so can be used as a delicate alternative to blue in bathrooms and small spaces.

Deep, rich plums will add drama to any room but work particularly well in dining rooms and living spaces as a bold feature.

Violets are moving towards a more muted, neutral based shade. The palette still offers elegance and luxury but in a more understated way.
